Rehabilitation of the South San Luis Obispo County Sanitation District’s primary digester is well under way by Fluid Resource Management’s mechanical/coatings crew. The project includes sandblasting and resurfacing of damaged concrete and recoating the walls and fixed steel dome roof. The structure, built in 1965, holds over 700,000 gallons of primary sludge for anaerobic treatment. Corrosion is always a concern at wastewater treatment plants, but is especially severe in sealed tanks where hydrogen sulfide attacks both the concrete and steel.
